A beauty retailer in Dubai could point at rising sessions and a flat sales week. A typical serum sat at AED 180. Recordings showed Abu Dhabi shoppers adding it, then losing the VAT-inclusive total when the delivery selector jumped to a Sharjah fee that did not apply. Telr's 3-D Secure step opened and, on return, the cart was gone. Desktop shoppers abandoned less often and still met an Arabic layout that clipped the pay button. The bucket was leaking at payment, not at awareness.
Visits without settlement
In the planning model 66% of mobile carts and 47% of desktop carts were left unpaid. More traffic would have enlarged the same leak. A campaign invoice plus 5% VAT, with no matching Telr settlement, is the symptom finance notices first.
Where the checkout drops the order
- Show the VAT-inclusive price before the payment step, including the delivery band for Dubai, Abu Dhabi, or Sharjah.
- Return the shopper to the same cart after Telr 3-D Secure. Test on the company's merchant account.
- Check the Arabic pay button on a phone, not only in a desktop preview.
- Remove surprise fees that appear after the guest has committed.
If the current theme cannot hold the cart, move the work to a checkout that can.
Technical leaks before the cart
Duplicate filter URLs, slow collection pages, and products sharing one title send a ready buyer to a dead end. Fixing that is hygiene. It is not a promise of a listing position. Technical cleanup should be judged by product pages that add to cart, with canonical tags and a page that loads on a phone.
Email for the cart they left
Where a guest had already left an email, one abandoned-cart message recovered 21% of those carts in the model. The message repeated the item and the VAT-inclusive total and used one link. A second note went only to people who did not open the first. Do not import a bought list and call it recovery.
Use the model as a workshop
The 66%, 47%, and 21% figures are a planning picture for a Dubai retailer comparing weeks, not a story about a named brand. Sit with the recordings, then audit the store. Buy more visits only after a test order survives Telr and shows the same VAT total the guest was promised.
