A test-prep brand in Delhi celebrated a report that showed 22,400 organic sessions. Nineteen people filled the form. Four of them were students who could pay a fee. The rest wanted free PDFs, were outside any city the centres actually served, or had searched a celebrity tutor the brand did not employ. The homepage targeted "online classes" for the whole country. Mumbai parents, Pune parents, and Bangalore working professionals never saw a page that named their batch timing, the fee, or the GST invoice they would receive.
Vanity traffic is a session that cannot become a paid seat. Rank movement on a head term is not a business result, and nobody honest can promise a position. What you can measure is whether the visit matches an offer you can fulfil.
Rankings that do not pay fees
The brand's blog ranked for generic study tips. Those pages had no batch, no centre, and no Razorpay link. UPI was buried on a national checkout that asked for a PIN code and then rejected half of them. Sales still judged the agency by average position. Finance judged it by fees collected. The two dashboards never met.
Service firms in Mumbai and Pune repeat this with "best consultant" pages that never say who the work is for. A rank without a city and a price is a brochure.
What a lead looks like
A useful lead names a city you serve, an offer you sell, and a next step a human can take this week. For this brand that meant a counselling call about a dated batch, not a download. Qualified calls in the planning model moved from 4 to 36 when the site stopped chasing the national head term and published separate pages for Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, and Bangalore, each with a fee from ₹15,000, a GST note, and a WhatsApp number answered by that city's counsellor.
Our SEO work in India is scoped around those enquiries. The reporting pairs Search Console queries with calls, not with a screenshot of a position.
How to audit traffic quality
- Export landing pages and keep only URLs that name an offer.
- Mark each form fill: right city, wrong city, student, job-seeker, or spam.
- Check whether UPI or Razorpay is one tap away on mobile, or hidden behind a PDF fee list.
- Read the queries. If they do not include a city or a product, the page is collecting curiosity.
- Compare GST-invoiced revenue with the pages that claim credit for it.
A report an owner can read
Replace the position chart with four lines: sessions on offer pages, form fills from served cities, calls or WhatsApp threads a human accepted, and fees or invoices raised. If the first number rises and the fourth does not, stop writing more blog posts until the offer pages are specific. A free audit is the fastest way to see which templates are collecting the wrong visits.
See which pages attract buyers
The free audit flags pages that collect sessions and pages that can collect a phone call.
